Although the island of Šolta is only around 15 km from the coast and Split, it has hardly been developed for tourism till today. With a coastline of around 80 km, it is the 13th largest island in Croatia and definitely one of the most overlooked “pearls of the Adriatic”. Alone because of its charm and beauty, with picturesque ruins from the old times, with beautiful hidden spots and with perfect conditions for mountain biking and hiking tours, Solta is definitely worth a visit. What you shouldn't miss by no means:

Port village Maslinica

Located on the west side of the island, the tiny port village Maslinica has been recognized as the "best tourist spot with less than 1000 inhabitants" and offers much more than just the most beautiful sunsets in Solta. Surrounded by natural beauties such as picturesque bays, pine forests and an archipelago of seven small islands , the place offers a lively beach promenade with cafes and restaurants. It is particularly popular with all nautical enthusiasts because of the bay Sesula and the ACI Marina.

Enjoy the charm of the small village and have a cocktail in the old castle and luxury hotel Martinis Marchi, which has also a sensational restaurant.

Gastronomic jewel Sismis buoys

The restaurant Šišmiš on Maslinca is an absolute must-try for gourmet fans - although the price is now quite high. Enjoy top-class fantastic fish and meat dishes as well as spend an evening in a breathtaking ambience directly by the sea and with a view on your yacht.

Tucked away at the end of the bay and built into the slope, the Sismis, as one of the best restaurants in the region, operates its own buoy field for everyone who arrives with their yacht. In any case, it is recommended to reserve a berth beforehand! (Reserve your berth here >>) and to be at the buoy by 3 p.m. at the latest.

Island specialities

The island has around 100,000 olive trees, including such sorts as Oblica and Levantinka, which can only be found on Solta and which are used in the production of olive oil.

Help out with the traditional olive harvest (Oct-Nov) - a truly authentic experience! Take a tasting tour at the Olynthia-natura or Grohote oil mill, or learn more about the Soltan specialty of Olynthio honey made from wild rosemary by visiting a local beekeeper.

At the dinner you should treat yourself with a glass of Dobricic wine - just like a real Soltaner, which is made in the traditional way by local wine manufacturer.

Active on the way

Solta offers too much than just "lazing around". Rent a bike in Stormorska and explore the many bike paths along the coast, passing by olive trees and vineyards. Or climb the Vela Straza, which has its highest peak on 238 meters. It is located in the interior of the island, above Gornje Selo. Take enough water with you to drink and don't forget the sun cream. Once at the top, there is a marvelous view on the whole city of Split.
