Spend a weekend in Corsica during a French Riviera yacht charter

Heading to Corsica during a French Riviera yacht charter, the ideal place to start your weekend is Calvi, located in the Balagne region, one of the wildest and most unspoiled parts of the island. This photogenic old city is set on a sheltered bay backed by mountains, with a lively harbour and a long sandy beach. Be sure to visit the extensive citadel which towers above, and from where there are lovely coastal views.

Continuing on your Corsica yacht charter between Calvi and l'Ile-Rousse, stop off at the marina at Sant'Ambrogio and the quiet resort town of Algajola, with a one-kilometre long sandy beach, one of the most attractive in the region, lined with restaurants and beach cafés.

The Red Island – Colourful and lively

Another must-see during a Corsica yacht charter is the popular resort of L'Ile-Rousse, named after the red rocky island which lies just a few hundred metres offshore.  The island, called Ile de la Pietra, draws many visitors to its lighthouses, from where there are lovely views across the harbour.

L'Ile Rousse was founded in the 18th century, and its main square (and surrounding neighbourhood) is lined with colourful shops and cafés creating a lively holiday atmosphere.  Take in the covered market on the edge of Place Paoli, built in 1845 to resemble a Greek temple.

Breathtaking beaches

There are several beautiful beaches to discover during a Corsica yacht charter. Pristine, wild and unspoilt, some are only easily accessible by boat.

Closest to the l'Ile-Rousse town centre is the Plage du Napoléon, with a promenade lined with beach cafés. Beyond a small rocky headland lies the quieter Plage de Ginepara. Further along the coast, the lovely Plage Ostriconi is difficult to access by land, making it ideal to visit during a Corsica yacht charter.

Cap Corse

The peninsula of Cap Corse is more secluded, and its west coast is lined with cliffs and mountains. At its base is Saint-Florent, whose Saleccia and Loto beaches are only accessible by boat. Travelling up the Gulf-de-Saint-Florent during a Corsica yacht charter, look out for the villages of Nonza and Pino, with its tiny marina and chapel.

The picturesque port at Centuri has a nice selection of restaurants, and at the far north of Cap Corse, the little fishing village of Barcaggio has a lovely beach.

There is so much to see in northern Corsica during a French Riviera yacht charter, you'll need more than a weekend to do it justice!  With its mountain peaks, picturesque villages and scenic coastline, you'll be dreaming of going back to the Ile de Beauté on a Corsica yacht charter in no time.
